Modern Apprenticeships and Vocational Qualifications are work based Training Programmes, which enable individuals to combine employment and training. Modern Apprenticeships are undertaken while you are in employment (so you “earn while you learn”).  YouTrain offers apprenticeships in several occupational areas. List

Who’s eligible?
First, to get funding to do a Modern Apprenticeship (or even to be able to do one without funding) you must be employed (in a full time or part time job). This is because Modern Apprenticeships are about showing you are competent to do a particular type of job, and you need to be employed in a relevant role to be able to do that.  

What funding you might be able to get depends on your age, and also what you are doing. You should be eligible in following circumstances:

•     Anyone under 20 who want to do:
  
  
  
  • Any of our Modern Apprenticeship programmes.  List
  
  
  • (Except note you would not get funding to do an apprenticeship at the same time as being in full time education, even if you do have a part time job). 


• People age 20 or over who want to do:
  
  
  
  • Our Microsoft IT Professional Apprenticeship including MCTS certifications OR
  
  
  • other IT Professional Apprenticeship OR
  
  
  • Management Vocational Qualification and Modern Apprenticeship at Level 3 or Level 4


• People aged 20 or over who are about to go into employment OR who have recently (in the past 3 months) gone into a job after being unemployed and who want to do:
  
  
  
  • IT Professional Apprenticeships as above OR
  
  
  • Our Microsoft IT User Apprenticeship including MOS certification OR   
  
  
  • Other IT User Apprenticeship

How much is available?
Funding for Modern Apprenticeships from Skills Development Scotland is only intended to cover part of the cost of an apprenticeship programme.
Other costs are usually paid by your employer. They vary depending on the type of apprenticeship being undertaken.
